Desert Mountain is truly one of the most complete and aesthetically beautiful tennis
facilities in the country, offering play on all three common surfaces: hard, clay
and grass. To combat the summer heat, all four of our sets of courts have a misting
system surrounding the central covered seating area to provide our players with
the utmost comfort while playing. Coupled with the gorgeous desert surroundings,
it is certainly one of the most pleasurable and comfortable settings in which to
play tennis.
Grass Court
Our Stadium Grass court is an aesthetic work of art, making a wonderful centerpiece
for the entire clubhouse. The grass court was designed with a full water heating
system built under the court to provide additional heat, allowing for ideal growing
conditions for the grass. Over the years our maintenance department, in coordination
with the tennis professionals, have strived to upgrade, improve and ensure that
the grass court surface is one of the finest in the world. On a recent trip to Desert
Mountain, former World No.1, Stefan Edberg proclaimed it as the "finest conditioned
grass court" he had seen.
Clay Courts
Clay, or what is commonly called har-tru, courts are exceedingly popular with our
membership, providing a softer playing surface. The courts were developed with the
HydroCourt system, building a clay tennis court on top of a controlled water reservoir.
The water table underneath allows evaporation and capillary action to provide water
evenly to the playing surface, allowing for excellent conditions.
Hard Courts
We have three hard courts at Desert Mountain, all having been resurfaced in the
Summer of 2005. The courts are very modern with a combination of cushion-based rubber
inlays that provide a more forgiving, player-friendly feel. Traditionally, hard
courts have been used by most leagues in the western half of the United States,
so it is important to maintain three hard courts to facilitate league play.
