Just over a year ago, Desert Mountain Club’s original clubhouse was reimagined from a double-wide trailer to an indoor/outdoor dining destination. Now, Renegade Clubhouse has been awarded with national acclaim. As second in the nation within Golf Inc. Magazine’s prestigious Clubhouse of the Year competition, this recognition highlights the clubhouse’s seamless integration with the desert landscape and its thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor amenities – a must-have for golf in Scottsdale, Arizona.
DTJ DESIGN, an architectural design form located in Boulder, Colorado, spearheaded the design of the project. Renegade blends architecture, landscape and nature to create an authentic desert retreat. Defined by floating roof forms, expansive glass walls and locally sourced Hualapai-Chocolate stone, the design fosters a seamless indoor-outdoor experience. Expansive covered terraces, multiple courtyards, and native landscaping enhance both aesthetics and functionality.
“Renegade is a testament to creativity and collaboration—where architecture and landscape come together to celebrate the beauty of the Sonoran Desert,” said Greg White, DTJ Principal and Project Manager. “The design embraces natural materials and open-air spaces, allowing guests to connect with the surrounding environment in a meaningful way.”
The clubhouse renovation, overseen by Todd Bruen, Director of Facilities and Construction here at Desert Mountain, along with DTJ Partner and Lead Architect David Poppleton and White, was essential in elevating the Member experience. Upon the grand re-opening in January 2024, Members saw enhancements that focused on improving access to the golf course and practice facilities that are adjacent to post-round indoor and outdoor dining. Modernized locker rooms, a state-of-the-art pro shop, dedicated social spaces and interiors are covered with natural light with floor-to-ceiling windows – all making Renegade a premier destination for private club golf in Scottsdale, Arizona.
